Trailer servicing is just as important (if not more so) as servicing your car. Although they do not have an engine, they do have most other moving parts , (wheels, bearings, brakes, brake cables etc).
When fully laden, a trailer could weigh as much as 3500kg, (yes, three and a half tonnes). This is why, at Sleaford Trailers, we take trailer servicing very seriously.
Trailer servicing recommendations
As an NTTA Member, we recommend trailer servicing as follows:
- Daily or before each journey – certain checks are essential for safety and are the responsibility of the trailer operator. Lamps, tyres for tread, damage and the correct pressure
- After the first 600 miles (1000 km) – essential for new trailers or if new brake linings and/or bowden cables are fitted.
- Every 3000 miles (5000 km) – three monthly for commercial / industrial trailers intensive usage, either by mileage towed or type of application and including boat trailers that are immersed in water.
- Every 6000 miles (10,000kms) – annually for caravans and leisure trailers. Six monthly for commercial/industrial trailers – based on “average” use.
When you bring your trailer in for servicing, we will carry our the work in line with the NTTA’s recommended practices. Once completed a written worksheet will be given to you, outlining the work done, and highlighting any advisory items.
A sticker (as opposite) will be placed on your trailer to remind you of the next service due date.
